Will the PSN debacle slow the rush to digital distribution of games?

By on May 3, 2011

That was the question I was asked by The Wall Street Journal last week.

I’m inclined to think that it is a speed bump, not a derailment. It is a real problem for Sony but it is hardly an opportunity for its competitors; we all need consumers to trust their personal and financial details to the cloud in the long run, so I hope that rivals will keep a dignified silence about the hacks.

The WSJ published the story on Royal Wedding day, so I doubt it will have had many readers. Still, if you are interested in the wider ramifications of the debacle, read Sony Hack Challenges Games Industry.
